Impressive sony mp3 recorder can be used to make fairly high-quality disk and cd recordings of your banjo playing.

I use a Tascam DR-1 and it will save in many mp3 and WAV.  It will record sound on sound and has a slow down feature that works very well, while maintaining the pitch.  You can take a cd and record it with a line in and then slow it down.  I've had it for more than a year and use it as a training aid for my students.   I have been very satisfied with it.
